Friday, October 20, 2006 -  Four More Farmers Markets

Alas, the end of the season of abundance is nigh. The weekly farmers market downtown will close for the year on November 11. This means only four more markets, ripe with the freshest flora, veggies, tubers, fruits, cheese, meat, and maple syrup confections until the long storage begins. Break out those jars and cans, folks. This past weekend exhibited the last heirloom tomato harvest from Enterprise Farms. Any takers on what will be next to go? Our bet is on peppers.

Some of the highlights this summer included: edamame, zuccini flowers, green zebra tomatoes, purple cauliflour, white peaches, chevre, and a shitload of garlic. Our staples were: swiss chard, collard greens, kale, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, pickles, potatoes, corn, and maple sugar doughnuts, my man.

All we need next is a baker (Hungry Ghost?). And someone who sells local free-range turkeys for Thanksgiving.
